The heart of what we do is Sound Design. More than slapping in few big hits or adding some thick reverb—Sound Design is the creative direction for everything that may or not already exist in the production and music tracks. It can be stylized or hyper real, but more often it is subtle and unobtrusive. Beyond accounting for any missing sound elements, Sound Design is the total aural aesthetics of a production.


Audio Mixing

Mixing is the process of gathering all of the creative intentions from everyone who has a guiding hand in a project. From concept—to production—to editorial. It is the re-recording mixer's job to understand the contributions of the producer, director, sound recordist, composer, sound designer, and editor—and to take all the audio elements available and construct a cohesive sonic story that honors that collaborative vision.


ADR & VO

Slap a mic in a closet? Whip out an iPhone? That just won't cut it and you know it. Recording ADR and Voice Over requires careful thought, the right equipment, and a proper space. It just so happens we have all of those things. Each voice is different, and to truly capture a performance, we select the right signal chain, from microphone, to preamp, to processing. We know how to bring out the emotion of spoken word.

While often ignored, Foley is the secret sauce that makes your production feel lifelike. Our in-house Foley process is specially tailored to provide a complete and effective enhancement to your production. We have a comprehensive and ever growing sound prop warehouse, a sizable recording space for big noisy messes, and a vast digital archive of real and un-real sound events.

Our continually updated headquarters houses a comfortable 7.1.4 ATMOS / DTS:X immersive surround mixing stage sized for broadcast media featuring PMC monitors, AVID S6-24 control surface, and an extensive array of analog and digital processing including: SymbolicSound's Pacarana Kyma sound computation engine; analog eurorack modular sound synthesis platform; Percussa SSP modular DSP engine; an ever growing bevy of plugins; esoteric microphone preamplifiers and microphones. An ample voice over booth, and large multi-purpose recording room for foley, ADR looping, and group recording are also available.

BENDY was founded in 2004 by Andy Snavley, who had a vision of a small yet nimble audio post-production company—flexible enough to navigate the coming industry changes—devoted to the advancement of the sound for picture craft—social and climate conscious—a personal attention to detail and service—and always with the highest level of audio production quality. With this lofty business goal, Snavley began to seek out creatives and clients who shared a similar notion, and built a network of experts in all areas of post-production to bring this approach to life.
At the heart of our business are two crucial areas of focus. One: That above all, communication is essential to our process, both internally and client facing. That is why we have built communication systems that are tailor made for each production. Nobody likes digging through thousands of emails to find an important mix note. And two: That we must maintain space in our busy schedules and crowded studios for sound experimentation. As a collective of audiophiles we have always maintained that in order to stay current, a sound company needs to continually advance. In this way we are routinely trying new tools and approaches, many times with unexpected benefit, as research into one area might yield advancements in another.

Andy Snavley

Andy Snavley, a lifelong music and sound experimenter, was born into a family of musicians, inventors, and tinkerers. In his 29 year career Andy has developed a deep well of experience and an insatiable thirst for the advancement of creative sound.

At the age of five, Andy discovered a small cassette tape recorder and began recording stories, skits, songs, and jokes—never was there a script. There were, however, lots of sound effects, instruments, and “voices.” Snavley attended public schools at a time when they still offered a wide range of photography, art, shop, and theatre classes, and he took advantage of as many opportunities possible. In elementary school, Andy was selected to be the AV monitor and his love for computers and videography was born. In Jr. High school he was drawn to stage-crew, where he rapidly excelled, and was later invited to attend the prestigious performing arts magnet high school, Hamilton Academy of Music.

1991—While still in high school, Andy began his career with an apprenticeship at the Academy Award winning sound company—Soundstorm. There he learned to build and maintain electronic control systems, amplifiers, switching systems, synchronization distribution systems, as well as mag and tape machines for the transfer bays. He advanced quickly and felt privileged to witness a traditional film sound process that dates back to the beginnings of Hollywood sound.

1994—Andy joined the bi-coastal commercial music shop tomandandy, where he refined his sound design and composing talents working with top advertising agencies (TBWA/Chiat Day, DMB&B, et al.). He also worked on several independent short films and features.

1997—Andy was awarded a staff position at an eight-room commercial post house, CB+Co / Mike Recording. His innovative approach to developing original, inspired, and powerful music and sound design was tapped for clients such as: Apple, Coke, Nike, Mitsubishi, Sprint, Farmers, Saturn, Lexus, and Toyota.

2004—Andy Snavley founded BENDY with a fresh creative prospective, a commitment to building strong client relationships, and a desire to mentor upcoming talent. Bendy opened up it’s newly designed and built studio in 2012 enabling Snavley to expand services and streamline processes. The building boasts a rooftop solar array, an air-conditioning system water recapturing system, and energy efficient lighting through-out.
